BASKARA Application, Solution for the Implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma in the Pandemic Period
IN THE midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the implementation of learning at all universities in Indonesia has been shifted to online. This transfer certainly hampers all activities contained in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. First, on the aspect of education and teaching. Second, research and development. And third, is the aspect of community service. Responding to this challenge, a team of students from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang offered a solution through the "Baskara" application design.
The application, which was designed by Muhammad Kelvin Haidar Priyanka, Muhammad Saifin Nuha Putra R., and Rizaldi Dwi Ramadhan, won the Written Ideas and Poster Competition organized by the Region VII Higher Education Service Institute (LLDikti) of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Of 498 students working from 78 participating universities, the UMM team was named the 2nd winner. The selection was carried out by the LLDikti Region VII team which was held on 8-16 June 2020.
Several policies have been implemented by several universities, these policies are considered good, but there are still some shortcomings that can still be improved. "In the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, all sectors of life are supported by advanced technology that makes work more effective and efficient. So, to facilitate activities in achieving the Tri Dharma of Higher Education during the pandemic," said Muhammad Kelvin, contacted via WhatsApp, Sunday (22/6).
Kelvin continued, this 2018 Civil Engineering Study Program student, the philosophy of choosing the name is the word "baskara" which means "Sun" referring to one of the UMM identities which later this application is expected to be the main goal of all online-based activities in the future. the current pandemic. “This application is able to cover the three pillars of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Later, the three pillars will become the main menu in this application," he said.
The main menu “Education and Teaching”, will be equipped with Teleconference, Auto Absence, and Two Way Sharing features. In the main menu "Research and Development", there are two submenus namely "Practicum Activities" and "Thesis/Final Project". It will contain several supporting features, such as teleconference. Furthermore, on the main menu “Community Service”, users will be presented with two submenus: “Student Volunteers” and “Let's Donate”.
The initial step in operating this application is that the user will be asked to fill in a simple biodata containing the name, institution/college, faculty, and department, which will later be used as initial information in exploring this software. After the complete biodata is filled in, the user can select the desired main menu according to the previous explanation. On this start page, the display will be made as simple as possible so that for all users, it is easy and understandable to operate.
“This idea is an innovation of new learning media that is expected to be able to minimize the problems that arise as a result of online learning. With the presence of this application, it can help the academic community realize the pillars of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and is expected to be able to produce a big impact in the form of revitalizing the system and quality of higher education with limited resources," concluded Kelvin, a student from Pasuruan, East Java.
