Chemistry Laboratory

 

Chemistry laboratory that includes the Basic Chemistry Laboratory, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry is an important facilitiy for education, research, service, and quality control. By means of those four functions, it is clear that the existance of the Chemistry Laboratory is very important, especially for the university that has exact faculty. This is to support the implementation of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi covering education, research, and community service.

Chemistry is a science based on experiment, so the relationship between the theory and the practice are very close.  

 

The objectives of chemistry laboratory work include:

a.   As the ilustration of the principles in theory.

b.   As the forming of scientific attitude.

c.   As the media of developing skill, the students are skillfull in using the laboratory’s equiptments, handling the chemicals, teaching the experiments, and doing chemical measurement.

d.   To get the chemistry practical experience as the basic to do further research based on the background of each skill. 

 

Therefore, chemistry laboratory is not only as the place for the students to do laboratory work, but also as the place to do research both students’ research (final project) and lecturers’ research. In addition, the chemistry laboratory also gives the public service for the people outside the university either for education or quality control and others.

The equipments that have been owned by the Chemistry Laboratory of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang are still being used for laboratory work service and basic research. Besides, these equipments are still needed the repairs, completing, and development based on the future demand. These facilities (inventarisation) can be seen in the laboratory directly because there are many items that cannot be mentioned one by one here.

Today, the use of the laboratory service is still limited on: a) Students’ research both general research and final project, b) Lecturer’s research, and c) Public service. In addition, the certain test that can be done in this Chemistry Laboratory such as water quality test, etc.

At present, the Chemistry Laboratory is used by four faculties; they are Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Livestock, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and Faculty of Engineering. Therefore, it is rather difficult to develop it because each faculty has different interest, specification, and development. Moreover, the lack of department of chemistry also becomes another difficulty.  

In general, for the short time this laboratory can be used:

a.   To fulfill the laboratory work’s necessity from these above faculties with the broader experiment variation and have the high capability toward the theory of course and also can fulfill the demand of scholar profession for each department/faculty, and

b.   To fulfill the broader basic research’s necessity both students’ research and lecturer’s research.  

In addition, for the long time, this laboratory is expected to meet the further research, to be the place for giving the analysis service both intern university and public and also to test the industrial products and others.

   

4.3.4.3. Physics Laboratory

Physics is the basic for the exact science that based on the experiment so that the relationship between the theory and practice are very close.

The objectives of physics laboratory work are:

a. As the illustration of the principles in theory.

b. As the forming of scientific attitude.

c. As the media of developing skill, the students are skillful in using the laboratory’s equipments, doing the experiments and doing the physics measurement.

d. To get the physics practice experience as the basic in doing research based on background of study.

 

The Functions of physics Laboratory are as follow:

a.    Place to do the physics laboratory work.

b.    Place to do research both students’ research and lecturer’s research.

c.    Media for public service, for the people outside the university either for education or quality test, etc.

The equipments that have been owned by the Physics Laboratory of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang are still being used for laboratory work service and basic research. Besides, these equipments are still needed repairs, completing, and development based on the future demand. The facilities (equipment and substance) include: relative humidity, thermocouple, solid heat kind, ice melting heat, Ohm’s law, Wheatstone bridge, electrolysis, oscilloscope, heat by electrical current, sound resonant, thin lens, artificial illumination, laser ray diffraction, refract meter, gravity acceleration, rigidity modulus, liquid viscosity, spring stiffness constant, surface tension, friction (each of it is 1 set) etc. Because the items are quite many, so it cannot be mentioned one by one here.

The use of the laboratory service is still limited on students’ research both general research and final project and also lecturer’s research.

Image and CAD Laboratory

The objective of laboratory work in image and CAD laboratory is to train the learners in learning image as the technical language using manual equipment, which emphasize on the ability to read and draw the picture accordance with prevailing standards in the world of engineering such as drawing and ANSY ISO 145.

CAD is computerized drawing aimed to prepare the engineering scholar who is capable to design and draw image with a help of computer using software from Autodesk (Autodesk training center) that international certified.

Besides as the place for training and learning service, this laboratory also serves the design and image consultation for the contraction machinery, industrial design, building and architecture. [Contact Person; Ir. Suwarsono, MT]

 

4.3.13. Mechanical Engineering Laboratory

These Engineering laboratory as stated below are used for the center of practical and experimental learning used by students and services for research and engineering consultation covering manufacturing design, metal testing, alternative energy development and environmental pollution, the design and manufacture of mechanical equipments, design and manufacture of control automatic. a. Automatic Machinery and Laboratory Design

This laboratory is used for the students’ practice for CNC machines programming course, precision machining (EDM), engineering design. In addition, it also can be used for research and consulting services for usage, maintenance and engine component manufacture using CNC and EDM machines.

The equipment used is consisted of Emco CNC TU 2A, ET100, VMC 120, CTS 100, TU3A, EDM, a computer with various software.

a.   Energy Conversion and Automatic Laboratory

This laboratory is used for the students’ practice for energy conversion machinery course, motor fuel, and maintenance. In addition it also can be used for research and consultation service for the characteristics of energy and automotive technique.

The equipment used is consisted of Centrifugal Pump Test Rig, petrol engine test bed, test bed refrigeration, water turbine test bed, petrol engine stand (5 pieces), diesel engine stand (2 stores), gas analyzers & smoke tester, engine analyzer, mechanical professional tool kits, automobile module, automobile, multi meter, etc.

 

c. Basic Mechanical Engineering Laboratory

This Basic Machine Phenomenon Laboratory is used to prove these phenomena in basic machine science in engineering mechanics, statics and heat, and the basic system of automatic control such as pneumatic and hydraulic base.

The equipments used including static and dynamics of strength of materials, fluid mechanics and Hydraulics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, basic Pneumatics and hydraulics from Festo. Besides that major equipment, the laboratory also has equipments to support research such as thermocouple, anemometer, sound level meter, vibro meter, light meters, etc.

d. Material Testing Laboratory

This laboratory is used for the students’ practice for material testing course. In addition it also can be used for research and consultation service for the characteristics of material technique.

The equipments used including major equipment that consisted of the Universal testing Machin, Brinell Hardness Tester, Vickers Hardness Tester, Rockwell Hardness Tester, and assist devices covering grinding equipment, test jominy, tought point sensors, etc.

e. Manufacturing and Metrology Laboratory

This laboratory is used for the students’ practice for production process course, machine design, material selection and processes, metrology industry. In addition it also can be used for research and consultation service and mechanical manufacture production.

The equipments used including major equipments that consist of various types of machine tools, work benche machines, and assist devices that covering measuring equipment, drawing/ painting tools, cutting equipment, blow, bend, press, and welding.

The Metrology equipments consist of Granite Plate, Neo Derm, 3-Wire Unit gage Micrometer, Vernier caliper, Bore-Gage, Surface Test, Test Hole, Block Gauge, Ultrasonic Thickness Gage, Universal Height Master, etc.

 

4.3.14. Civil Engineering Laboratory

The Civil Engineering Laboratory as stated below are used as a center of practical and experimental learning used by students, research services and engineering consultation   covering building design, bridges, roads, irrigation, liquid, and also survey and mapping.   1.  Concrete Technology Laboratory

Concrete Materials Technology Laboratory is used to review and recognize the characteristics of concrete composer, the fresh mixing concrete planning in the field and also conduct laboratory concrete testing according to SK SNI 1991. In addition, it is also used for student research, lecturer’s research and engineering consulting services of materials technology and concrete.

The equipments owed for the laboratory work are already fulfill the laboratory work equipment standard, such as: Laboratory Concrete Mixer, Concrete Testing Machine, Slump Test, Electric Vibrator Laboratory, Modulus Of Elasticity in Concrete Test, Capping Compound Warmer, Hand Concrete Flow Table, Sieve Brass Analysis, Electric Sieve Shaker, Baskett Density, Heavy Duty Solution Balance, Mortar Mixer, apparatus Vicat Test, ovens, etc. Those equipments are used for: a). Investigating of concrete raw material, b). Planning of Mixed Concrete, c). Insvestigating and testing of concrete; determine the strength of concrete crushed at 28 days.

  1. Soil Mechanics Laboratory

This laboratory is used for soil analyzing, so it can find and recognize the physical characteristics and types of soil in the laboratory, both in the original (undisturbed) and disturbed conditions (disturbed) and also conducting testing and analyzing soil in the field. This laboratory is also used for students and lecturers’ research and engineering consultation service of soil mechanical.

To support the laboratory work, the equipment owned have already met the standard of Soil Mechanics Laboratoy, such as: Hand Drill, Standard Penetration Test, Sample extruder, Dutch Cone Penetrometer / Sondir, Sand Cone Test, Rubber Ballon Test, Sieve Shaker, Hydrometer Analysis Test, Compaction tests, Atterberg Limit Test, Laboratory CBR Test, Unconfined, Compression Machine, Consolidation Test, Permeability Test, Direct Shear Test, etc. Those can be used for a). Annexation samples by Drilling, b). Testing the soil by a sondir, c). Analyzing land by Sand Cone, d). Examining ground water quality, e). Examining the soil weight type, f). Analyzing of soil grains (sieve analysis and hydrometer test), g). Soil consistency checks (Atterberg limits), h). Soil density test (standard and modified), i). Soil Tests Free Press, j). Testing field CBR (California Bearing Ratio), k). Soil slide soil, l). Soil Consolidation Test, m). Soil permeability test.

  1. Soil  Geometry Laboratory

The activity on Soil Geometry Laboratory is conducting laboratory work for soil geometry as a means of supporting media for the students to be able to make  an angle and height measurement at a certain location and be able to make a situation map of an area appropriately and accurately. The equipments owned by this laboratory are a water level, Thedolite (manual and digital), measuring bucket, and Yallon. This laboratory is  used for students and lecturers’ research, and engineering consulting services (services) for survay.

  1. Highway Laboratory

This laboratory is completed by several facilities, such as: Los Angeles Abrassion Machine, Sieve, Oven Sand Equiovalent Test Set, Penetrasion Test Set, Ductility Test Set, Flash and Fire Point Test Set, Softening Point Screw Test Set, Automatic Bitumenous Compactor, Solubility of Bitumenous Material, Viscosity Test Set, Benkelmen Beam Apparatus, Thermometer, Neraca, Container, Softening Point Test, Absorsion of fir Aggregate, Dunagan Test set, and Glooch Crucible. This laboratory is used for students and lecturers’ research, and engineering consulting services for highway.

  1. Hydraulics Laboratory

Hydraulics laboratory is completed by several facilities, such as: opened and closed aqueduct, Staff Ponit Gauge. Basic Hidraulic Bench, Dead Weight Calibrator, Hydrostatic Pressure, Flow Over Weirs, Bernaulli Therm Demostration, Osborne Reynold Demostrasion, Flowmeter Demontrasion, Velocity Meter, and Analoque Indicator. This laboratory is used for students and lecturers’ research, and engineering consulting services for water system.

 

 

 

 

4.3.15 Electrical Engineering Laboratory

     Electrical engineering laboratory as stated bellows are used as a center for laboratory work and experiment done by the students. Besides, it used for engineering riset and consulting service covering hardware and software design in medic electronics, industry, automatic control, electrical power, and software in electronics and automatic control. .   1. Electricity And Electronica Circuit Laboratorium

§ Electricity circuit laboratory work is purposed to support electricity circuit I course, electricity circuit II course, and electricity circuit III course.

§ Electricity measurement laboratory work is purposed to support electronics and electricitry measurement course.

§ Electronics laboratorium work is purposed to support basic electronics and electronics analog course. 

  1. Logic and Microprocesor Laboratory

§ Logic Circuit Laboratory work is purposed to support logic circuit/digital electronics course and digital system designing course.

§ Microprocesor laboratory work is purposed to support microprocesor system course.

§ VHDL laboratory work is purposed to support electronics system designing course.

  1. SPP (Setting and Measuring System) and Industry Electronics Laboratory.

§ Setting and measuring system laboratory work is purposed to support basic setting and measuring system/basic control system course. Setting and measuring system.

§ Industry electronics laboratory work is purposed to support course for industry electronics and PLC.

  1.  Computer Aplication Laboratory

§ Computer programing laboratory work is purposed to support computer organization course and basic computer programing course with turbo C.

§ Assembler laboratory work is purposed to support for Assembly language course.

§ Electronics design laboratory work is purposed to support electronics design course.

  1. Electronics workshop.

Electronics workshop is purposed to support students’ extra activity aimed to community service especially for the electronic equipments. 

 

4.3.16. Industrial Engineering Laboratory

Industrial engineering laboratory as stated bellows are used as a center for laboratory work and experiment done by the students. Besides, it used for engineering riset and consulting service covering industrial product development, organizaton and work designing. [Contact Person; Ir. Muhammad Lukman, MT].

 

a.   Ergonomics and Work System Designing Laboratory

Work measurement laboratory work is purposed to give practical learning how to determine the work method, to detrmine rating performance, to make process map, to make work map, to implement the work measurement using stop watch and work sampling methodology. 

 

Work system designing  laboratory work is purposed to give practical learning how to design work method, work station, control pannel, product, etc according to the work principle and human faal condition, to design work system, sound communication, etc according to work principle and human faal condition.

 

b.   Manufacture System laboratory

 

Product designing and controlling laboratory work is purposed to give practical learning how to predict the demand, to make agreegate and disagreegate scedule, to make main product scedule, to make work instruction letter, to set up work, to plan material necessity, to design orbit balance, to design lay out, etc on the manual technology  industry.

Product System Laboratory work (MPR II, JIT, Project management) is purposed to give practical learning how each product system works, how to design it, and how to test its realibility on the manual technology industry.

 

c.   Industry System Simulation and Optimazation Laboratory

Industry system simulation and optimazation laboratory work is purposed to provide the students with skill to master software such as quantitative system, SEESIM, Vensim, SPSS, Arena, etc in finishing various big works of Industry system simulation and optimazation courses, operation research, and project management that imposible to be done manually in big number.

Product system simulation and optimazation laboratory work is purposed to give practical learning how to implement experiments’ simulation and (if possible) to find the solution from the industrial problem that will be implemented by Statistics I and II laboratory, Quality control laboratory, PSKE laboratory, Product system to Industry system laboratory, Integration laboratory, Quality management laboratory, PSKE, MRP II and management studio in a industry system simulation.

 

d.   Management Studio

This laboratory is used to provide the students with skill to master software simulation that used for manufacture system controlling in computer, so it is close with the real object condition.

 

e.   Organization Studio

This laboratory is used to provide the students with skill to master software simulation and games taht used for organization management

 

4.3.17. Information Technology Laboratorium

Information Technology Laboratory as stated bellows are used as the center of practical and experimental learning that used by the students. Besides, it used for riset and engineering consultation services covering software design for animation, administration, graphic, etc. [Contact Person; Hariyady, S.Kom]

a.      Software Engineering Laboratory

The objective of this laboratory is making the students having ability and competency in software engineering that as the base competence that has to be had by an information technology department student. The laboratory work courses in this laboratory are purposed to support the courses such as: structured programing, programing base object using java, alghoritm and programing, and software engineering.    

b.      Intranet and Internet Networking Laboratory.

The objective of this laboratory is making the students having ability and competency in intranet and internet networking that as the mastery competence that has to be had by an information technology department student. The laboratory work courses in this laboratory are purposed to support the courses such as: data communication and networking, web base programing, and E-business.

c.      Information system laboratory

The objective of this laboratory is making the students having ability and competency in information system that as the mastery competence that has to be had by an information technology department student. The laboratory work courses in this laboratory are purposed to support the courses such as: data structure, database design, distributed database design, and geograpics information system.

d.      Computer architecture and system laboratory

The objective of this laboratory is making the students having ability and competency in computer architecture and system that as the mastery competence that has to be had by an information technology department student. The laboratory work courses in this laboratory are purposed to support the courses such as: operation system, computer architecture and organization, and assembly language.

e.      Graphic Design and Multimedia Application Design Laboratory

The objective of this laboratory is to make the students having ability and competency in multimedia application design and graphic design that as the mastery competence that has to be had by an information technology department student. The laboratory work courses in this laboratory are purposed to support the courses such as: computer graphic and Pengol.
