University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) through the Faculty of Engineering and a number of parties have again become the pioneers in the development of New Renewable Energy (EBT) by constructing a Micro Hydro Power Station (PLTMH) recently. This time the construction was carried out in the Eco Tourism environment of Boon Pring Andeman, Sanankerto Village, Turen District, Malang Regency, East Java.

UMM was not alone, the construction of this PLTMH was also initiated by the National Bank of Indonesia (BNI) Malang Regional Office, Jawa Pos Radar Malang, Bumdes Kerto Raharjo and supported by the Government of Malang Regency. In its development, it uses CSR Community Development funds from BNI. In its development, BNI poured funds amounting to 348 million rupiah. These funds are fully used for the construction of PLTMH.

The construction of the Boon Pring PLTMH in Sanankerto Village which took 10 months to complete was inaugurated by the Regent of Malang, Drs. Sanusi, MM, Sunday (1/2). Attended by Jawa Pos Radar Malang Director Kurniawan Muhammad, Beby Lolita Indriani as Head of Regional BNI Regional Office of Malang, Sanankerto Village apparatus, and Malang Regency government officials. Not to forget, the UMM academic community.

The Head of the UMM PLTMH Technical Team, Ir Suwignyo, MT explained the PLTMH in the Andeman - Boon Pring Eco Tourism environment is community-based to support the conservation of Andeman water sources and the development of integrated ecotourism. "This effort is based on the Andeman Spring Resources and the desire of the community and the Sanakerto Village Government which have the potential to be developed," he explained.

"The development of this spring resource is expected to form a community-based rural economic development center. The aim is to improve economic welfare, develop employment and productive communities that support tourism and develop a sustainable social environment, "continued Wignyo when met during the inauguration of the Boon Pring Sanankerto PLTMH.

One of the potentials of the Andeman spring is the electrical energy produced by the PLTMH, which is that during the day it can be utilized for productive rural activities and for the development of irrigation pumps in agro-tourism areas. And can be used as an educational park for science-technology and renewable energy tourism. At night it is used for lighting the tourist area and the surrounding environment.

Technically, PLTMH in Sanankerto Village relies on 0.50 M3 per second of water flow by taking from Andeman water sources. The turbines used are different from those used in the previous PLTMH at UMM. "Boonpring turbines use vertical shaft propellers. If it is successful we will develop it to be produced and will be sold, "said the UMM lecturer in Civil Engineering.

This turbine, continued Suwignyo, was designed by the UMM Faculty of Engineering team. The energy driven from the turbine is designed to reach 14 kWatt throughout the year. In making the Boonpring PLTMH, Sanankerto Village is planned to start in May and be completed by the end of September. "The next Boonpring PLTMH will be a field laboratory for the Faculty of Engineering of UMM," added Wignyo.

The Head of Sanankerto Village, H. Subur, S.E, explained that the existence of PLTMH in the area he leads is recognized as adding to Boonpring's environmental value as a tourist destination so that it can bring new innovations in it. "In addition to increasing the productivity of bamboo craftsmen, in the future Sanankerto will be used as an Agro-tourism learning center," he said when giving a speech.

UMM Rector Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd when giving his speech stated that although UMM was an educational institution, but one of its missions was how to educate the community and provide benefits to the community. In front of village heads in Malang, Fauzan offered to do the same collaboration, as had been done in Sanankerto Village.

Malang Regent, Drs. Sanusi, MM. claimed to be proud of this achievement. "In Indonesia, renewable energy sources are still a challenge that must be developed. Especially in the modern era, the construction of this PLTMH plays a vital role in achieving development progress in other fields. Hopefully this development can be beneficial for the community, "said Sanusi who also gave a speech.
