Malang, (26/08) University of Muhammadiyah Malang held a meeting with New Student Guardians (Maba) for the 2022/2023 academic year. The meeting was held for 2 days, namely on Tuesday, August 23, and Thursday, August 25, 2022. The event was held at the UMM Dome Hall and was attended by new students from 8 faculties. The activity began with remarks and directions from the Chancellor of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. followed by signing a memorandum of understanding with representatives of Wali Maba. At the second meeting, on August 25, 2022, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture who was also the Chairman of BPH Muhammadiyah, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P.
The event then continued with the Wali Maba discussion with the Faculty Dean in several different places, specifically the Faculty of Engineering which was held in the Dome Hall. The event was held so that Wali Maba could discuss more with the Dean and Study Programs, and could ask questions related to student lectures. Prof. Ilyas Masudin, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering said, "In monitoring student development, the Study Program facilitates each student with a guardian lecturer. The hope is that they will become second parents on campus. Even so, parents still have to monitor their children, because that is our duty together." Ilyas added, "we provide assurance that children can graduate on time through 'UMM Pasti', but it is also necessary to ensure that students are serious about gaining knowledge here."
On this occasion, the deans were also present, including Zulfatman, M.Eng., Ph.D. (Deputy Dean I), Gita Indah Marthasari, ST., M.Kom (Dean Dean II), Zamzami Septiropa, MT., Ph. D (Dean of Dean III), along with all Heads of Study Programs and Secretaries of Study Programs within the Faculty of Engineering. The three of them took turns giving directions in the fields of academics, facilities and infrastructure, and student affairs. Counseling is intended so that parents of Wali Maba get a comprehensive picture of learning methods, payment flow, scholarships, to student activities while on campus.
The event was closed with a question and answer session, where several Wali Maba parents took turns asking about details regarding lectures. Some parents provide suggestions regarding the Faculty of Engineering collaboration that needs to be improved with the Industry. The goal is to make it easier for graduates to get jobs later.
