Lombok (8/7), the UMM Mechatronic 1 Team, representing the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, managed to achieve a brilliant achievement by entering the top 5 electric cars in the Urban Concept category in the prestigious competition, Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2023. This competition was held in Mandalika, from 4 to 9 July 2023. Even though the weather was a little cloudy and rainy, the UMM Mekatronic 1 team managed to show an extraordinary performance.
In this competition, the UMM Mekatronic 1 Team was trusted to drive their electric car with a reliable driver, Eko Dandi. This team successfully passed the Technical Inspection stage, showing that the cars they made met the specified safety and quality standards. After that, they were ready to participate in the real race. During the competition, the UMM Mechatronic 1 Team did 2 out of 4 allowed attempts. The results they obtained were truly satisfactory, achieving an efficiency of 77 km per kilowatt hour (km/kwh). This figure shows that their electric car can travel long distances with very efficient energy use.
The achievements of the UMM Mechatronic 1 Team cannot be underestimated. They managed to outperform participants from several participating countries, including Arabia, India, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. This shows the quality and superiority of electric cars made in Indonesia which are able to compete with innovative cars from these countries. The team manager, Muhammad Amin Abil, is proud of the achievements his team has achieved. In an interview, he stated, "We fought our best in this competition. The results we got were quite good considering the challenges and problems we faced with the car and the difficulties on the track. We are very grateful and grateful to the entire team who have worked hard to achieve this result."
The achievement of the UMM Mechatronic 1 Team is clear evidence of the ability and dedication of the students in developing environmentally friendly technology. The Shell Eco-Marathon Asia competition provides an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their innovation and ability to create energy-efficient vehicles.
